Flower arranging is for everyone! In celebration of Canadian Flowers Week, we invite you to participate in an evening of multi-disciplinary floral merriment. Participants will have the opportunity to flirt with the art of Japanese Ikebana inspired arranging - followed by an instructor led still life pastel drawing of their designs.

In the pursuit of Ikebana (活け花), we use a brass Kenzan (or flower frog) to affix stems to the bottom of our vessels. Ikebana design reflects a deep reverence for the natural world and a minimalistic precision. Arrangements are a meditation on each floral element. By balancing their unique lines and form within a carefully considered negative space, every aspect is celebrated with intention.

Together, participants will playfully delve into the expansive philosophy that bolsters this ancient practice. Each guest will leave with their own locally grown floral arrangement, vessel, brass Kenzan and pastel drawing.

This evening is hosted in conjunction with Grey Bruce Flower Growers, a collaboration between seven small-scale ecologically focused flower farmers based in Grey/Bruce and the surrounding region.

INSTRUCTOR/FACILITATOR: Madeline Haney (Ingénue) is a transdisciplinary artist gardener. Her growing practice pivots on cultivating unique varieties in order to artfully demonstrate the ephemerality of our natural world.
