ABOUT

Gleaning is bringing food that would otherwise go to waste into a space of sharing, connecting local food producers with food banks, meal-programs and vulnerable end-users. With funding from The Community Foundation Grey Bruce the Community Food Gleaning Project, as part of The Sustainability Project, partner with food producers through West Grey such as Cedardown Farm, Saugeen River CSA, and Fair Fields Organics to harvest what is still quality food but excess to the farmer, and connect the dots to people who need it.

Through the 2025 season we have been directing this produce to a number of local, community-building meal programs, including Food Not Bombs and OShare in Owen Sound, Light on Main in Hanover as well as cooking classes at West Grey Youth Centre in Durham.

We also invite community members to glean with us, if you are interested to build skills and awareness around seasonal food harvesting, learn more about gleaning or assist our project in any way, feel free to reach out to lydiadyck.sunspring@gmail.com

Durham Art Gallery rests on the traditional land of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation, which is represented by the communities of Saugeen First Nation and Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation. The Métis Nation of Ontario, whose history and people are also well represented in what are now known as Bruce and Grey Counties.

We are committed to re-framing our responsibilities to land, history and community. We acknowledge that words are insufficient and that it is our responsibility to move beyond statements and workds as we continue to listen, learn and  uphold the critical importance of truth, reconciliation and reparation.

In line with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action, we are committed to the dismantling of anti-Indigenous racism and discriminatory practices against Indigenous People.
