March Break 2026

Join us at the Durham Art Gallery for our March Break workshops for kids.

 

Last year's March Break workshops were a hit and we're delighted to bring them back to continue building creativity in our rural town.

Colour Explorations - Painting I & II

ARTIST INSTRUCTOR: Jennifer Clark

DATE: Tuesday, March 17 & Wednesday, March 18, 2026 

TIME: 10am – 12pm 

AGE: 10-13 years 

FEE: $70 ($60 for DAG members) for both days

 

This two-part class will explore the 12 fold colour wheel, diving into mapping and making colour combinations with hands on exercises as well as learning various painting techniques to create a final painting using watercolours and chalk pastels. 

Drawing

ARTIST INSTRUCTOR: Carol Sebert

DATE: Thursday, March 19th, 2026

TIME: 10am – 12pm

AGE: 8+ years

FEE: $35 ($30 for DAG members)

This morning workshop dives into principles of drawing through experimenting with still life techniques. Students will learn to see how light and shadow gives objects volume using pencils and chalk pastels. 

Pinch Pot Animals

ARTIST INSTRUCTOR: Paige Bowen

DATE: Friday, March 20th, 2026

TIME: 10am – 12pm 

AGE: 6 - 10 years

FEE: $35 ($30 for DAG members)

Learn the basics of clay sculpting by making a pinch pot animal friend! Learn how to make a hollow form as a base for these little creatures and learn how add texture to pieces using a variety of methods. 

Shoebox Diorama

ARTIST INSTRUCTOR: Paige Bowen

DATE: Friday, March 20th, 2026

TIME: 1pm – 3pm

AGE: 6 - 12 years

FEE: $35 ($30 for DAG members)

Create your very own world inside a shoebox using collage techniques to create depth and stories.
